Generation X in Prague, or, The Story of My Life

Generation X, or the 13th Generation (born between 1961 and 1971) are reactive and nomadic

How much is it possible to escape the social definition of one's own generation?
(oh wait, "wanting to escape" is part of the definition)

And what happens when we Gen-Xers finally get married, have kids and "sort of" settle down? (I hesitate to write the words "grow up")

stay tuned ...

blood roar

.. and I thought we were the Blank Generation or the Beat(en) Generation (check out the rather wonderful The The track).
Thats a cute way of getting yourself up in the Google search stats...i may be more optimised than optimystic..

..Krassner was a dude..like most of that ilk he had his ups and downs..i think he was the one that said after 4 trips on good acid there was just no point in taking it any more..at least Ginsberg showed responsible regret for some of that lysergic evangelism..

"boar drool"? yes! reminds me of all the bad chemical sweets and toys of the early 70s regurgitated and cut and folded into some "special gift" issue.. the wild pig was a Pictish totem animal and they are very rare here now.. i first saw them in Bavaria..

Re: blood roar

I was surprised when I saw my search become the first hit on google, but I see I've fallen now to the second page, and fine, I didnt mean to get up there

And I see an interesting sermon on Havel's Power of the Powerless is up there now, commenting on the plight of dissidents

I guess this post is about my feeling that Gen-X, or the Slackers (or the Beaten Generation, from The The, "raised on prejudice and disinformation") has an affinty with the lost dissident generation here in Central Europe, a sort of shared powerlessness, along with the idealising of the 60s. I've spent many nights in pubs with these old dissident here in Prague, and I'm finally beginning to see why they appeal to me.

theres also this article which tries to parody the dissidents somewhat, but is also revealing of their post-revolutionary confusion ...

I can see why I ran off to Prague now, to escape and keep escaping. But I am starting to fail as a nomad now. Perhaps its the inertia of that narcotic of information that has me in a stranglehold ... that and/or getting married and having a kid ...

Boar Drool is the name of the random lowfi avant jazz/bad synth music project with my son. The name evokes that same musty hidden masculine odour of the name bikerbar as well. A bit of a joke really, as I'm a wimp of course.

I like that phrase, "starting to fail as a nomad." When you leave america, people think you've failed BECASUE you become a nomad. Now, it's just the opposite.

You met a great woman and decided to stay with her and that is nothing to regret.
